Efficient Rooftop Replacement for a Supermarket in Abruzzo, Italy

Project Overview

In the Abruzzo region of central Italy, a supermarket underwent a full HVAC retrofit to replace aging rooftop equipment and align with modern efficiency standards. Redge delivered a turnkey solution combining twelve EVIO rooftop units and one ECOMFORT MC R32 indoor heat pump, creating a system that balanced performance, energy monitoring, and year-round reliability.

The goal was to enhance climate control for both customer-facing and operational zones, while ensuring energy recovery and consumption tracking across the site.

Challenges

While no major installation constraints were reported, the replacement had to:

• Integrate smoothly with the building's existing infrastructure


• Provide high seasonal efficiency across varied thermal loads


• Combine rooftop air-based systems with a hydronic backbone


• Enable energy metering and recovery functions

The solution had to maintain thermal comfort without disrupting daily supermarket operations.

Redge Solution

Redge deployed a hybrid system tailored to the supermarket's needs:

• EVIO rooftop units (x12): Each unit featured an enthalpy wheel for thermodynamic heat recovery, allowing the system to reuse energy from exhaust air to reduce peak heating and cooling loads. This was especially beneficial during shoulder seasons, improving overall efficiency.


• ECOMFORT MC R32 heat pump (x1): Installed indoors, the hydronic unit managed water-based heating and cooling requirements. It came equipped with a dual high-prevalence pump module and built-in energy metering, offering enhanced system balancing and real-time monitoring capabilities.

Together, EVIO and ECOMFORT formed a dual-technology configuration capable of supporting diverse climate needs across public and technical zones---from retail aisles to storage and staff areas.
