Carbon-Reducing Rooftop Retrofit for Logistics Site | Redge R32 HVAC Upgrade

Project Overview

At a logistics facility operating with a 20-year-old HVAC infrastructure, Redge was called upon to deliver a large-scale retrofit focused on improving energy performance and reducing CO₂ impact. The installation involved the replacement of 16 existing rooftop systems, including 12 new-generation rooftop units using R32 refrigerant.

The goal was to modernize air temperature control across storage and handling areas while optimizing long-term operational and environmental performance.

Challenges

Logistics centers typically face HVAC demands that vary by storage type, occupancy, and outdoor conditions. The aging systems in place were no longer meeting performance expectations in terms of reliability or energy efficiency. The client sought:

  • A significant reduction in overall TCO₂ (Total Carbon Output)

  • A fast replacement process to avoid business disruption

  • Compact rooftop units with low-GWP refrigerant

  • Improved seasonal energy efficiency

Redge Solution

The Redge team coordinated with the project's design and execution partners to supply and install 12 rooftop units operating on R32 refrigerant, alongside additional Lennox systems tailored to meet specific zone requirements. The use of R32, with its lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) compared to legacy refrigerants, contributed directly to the decarbonization goals of the project.

All systems featured modern control architecture, enhanced fan efficiency, and reduced refrigerant charges. By opting for new-generation Lennox rooftops, the client benefited from simplified replacement logistics and faster commissioning while maintaining compliance with the latest energy regulations.
