Project Overview
Containerised electrical cabins are widely used to house critical electrical equipment in industrial and infrastructure projects. Maintaining stable internal environmental conditions is essential to protect sensitive electrical components from excessive heat, humidity and condensation, while ensuring reliable operation throughout the year.
For this project, two electrical containers were supplied for deployment in Eastern Europe, where the equipment was expected to operate in challenging climatic conditions, including prolonged periods of sub-zero winter temperatures. The customer required a climate control solution capable of maintaining consistent internal conditions 365 days a year while providing maximum operational reliability.
A key project requirement was continuity of operation. Any interruption to the climate control system could compromise the internal environment of the electrical cabins and potentially affect the performance of the equipment they protect. The customer therefore requested a solution that combined compact installation, efficient operation and automatic system redundancy without increasing operational complexity.
In addition, the rooftop units needed to be suitable for installation directly on the containers while meeting the project's requirements for a lightweight and space-efficient design.
Redge Solution
To address these requirements, the project incorporated a dual rooftop configuration designed to provide continuous environmental control with automatic backup capability.
1. Primary Rooftop Unit
A Redge rooftop unit was installed as the primary climate control system for each container.
Its role is to:
- Maintain the required internal temperature and humidity throughout the year.
- Deliver a cooling capacity of 35 kW.
- Provide an airflow rate of 7,000 m³/h.
- Support climate control with an integrated electric post-heating element.
- Ensure continuous control of temperature and humidity throughout all seasons.
2. Standby Rooftop Unit
A second Redge rooftop unit was installed as a dedicated standby unit.
Rather than operating simultaneously, this unit remains available to take over automatically should the primary rooftop experience a fault. This redundant configuration supports uninterrupted climate control without requiring manual intervention.
3. PLC-Controlled Automatic Changeover
A PLC-based control system was integrated into the installation to manage the two rooftop units.
The PLC continuously monitors system operation and automatically transfers operation from the primary unit to the standby unit whenever required. This immediate changeover helps maintain the same climatic conditions inside the electrical cabin, supporting continuous protection of the enclosed electrical equipment.
This approach combines operational resilience with a compact installation, making it well suited to critical containerised applications where reliability is a primary design consideration.
